If you like a sick guard game, be it open or spider, then you should be a fan of Michael Langhi. The Alliance black belt and multiple time world champion has one of the most incredible guards in the business. Born in Sao Paulo state, Michael grew up under the tutelage of one of the greatest guard playing black belts in history in Rubens “Cobrinha” Charles. The two friends have worked for years under the shadow of Jacare and Fabio Gurgel, flying the Alliance banner. In his breakout year of 2009, his first as a black, Langhi won the grand slam of Brazilian Nationals, Europeans, Pan Ams, and Worlds, showing the world that he truly was a force to be reckoned with.
Michael has really come into his own in the last few years, but still has a lot to give. At 27 years old he is in his prime and still making a big push to add to his medal count. The competition is chomping at the bit to get a piece of him, but they’ll have to get past his guard first.
